Dr. Taurance N. Bishop is the founder and co-owner of Smile Brite Dental Care, a practice he proudly opened in Newark, Delaware, in 2006 with one simple mission: to provide exceptional dental care in an environment where every patient feels like family.

Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Bishop earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Morgan State University before receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University. He then completed a General Practice Residency at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware, where he refined his clinical skills and developed the patient-centered approach that continues to define his care today.

For Dr. Bishop, dentistry is about so much more than healthy teeth—it’s about building relationships, restoring confidence, and helping people smile without hesitation. He believes that the best dental experience begins with listening. That’s why he takes the time to understand each patient’s concerns, answer questions, and create personalized treatment plans that fit their goals and lifestyle. Whether you’re visiting for a routine cleaning or a complete smile transformation, his priority is making you feel comfortable, informed, and genuinely cared for.

Committed to providing the highest quality care, Dr. Bishop stays current with the latest advancements in dentistry and offers comprehensive treatment, including cosmetic dentistry, restorative care, dental implants, root canal therapy, and extractions. His gentle approach, attention to detail, and dedication to patient comfort have earned the trust of generations of families throughout the community.

Giving back has always been at the heart of who Dr. Bishop is. Inspired by his mother’s lifelong career as a social worker, he believes everyone deserves access to quality dental care. Each year, he hosts Smile Brite’s annual Free Dental Day, providing complimentary dental services to uninsured and underserved members of the community. To date, this initiative has provided more than $100,000 in donated dental care—and the impact continues to grow.

Dr. Bishop is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of dentists. As an attending dentist with the ChristianaCare General Dentistry Residency Program, he enjoys helping new dentists transition confidently into private practice. He is a proud member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the National Dental Association, and the Delaware State Dental Society, and is a founding board member of the Independent Dental Society of Delaware.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Bishop enjoys traveling with favorite destinations including St. Lucia, Venice, and Paris. He also loves long-distance running, golfing, and spending quality time with his wife, three children, and their extended family and friends.
